Abortion

“The foetus is not yet a human being because it cannot survive outside the uterus on its own. Abortion should not be considered murder if the foetus is not self-sustaining and requires the mother’s body and physical resources to survive”. I don’t agree with this statement, because I believe that Abortion is the direct act of killing a human being, which is immoral and should be illegal.

Firstly, we must know that the procedure of abortion is very dangerous, this is because as abortions are illegal in many countries, people decide to go to clandestine places. These locations are commonly unsafe and don´t have the necessary equipment to do the abortion on a safer way. The malpractice of this surgery can cause plenty of diseases such as breast cancer, depression, a pelvic inflammatory disease, and can also kill the patient. The unsafe location where most women with limited resources have to abort their babies are unsanitary, dirty and do not guarantee an optimal operation. 

The unborn baby's heart starts beating at the 20th day and the brain gives off brainwaves at the 40th day. This means that the foetus is actually alive. Considering this, the act of abortion completely denies the right to experience the world and the most important one, of life. (Actually, given the fact that the foetus is alive and that we don’t have the right to take someone else’s life abortion is completely unethical.

Another thing about abortion is that many women are using it as a form of contraception; this means that they don’t use any kind protection or aren’t informed about the diseases and consequences that can cause unsafe sex. Instead of protecting themselves or looking for information they just do it and if they end up pregnant, they abort the baby as if it was a waste, an object, or just another method to avoid pregnancy.

There are other safer solutions to solve the pregnancy problem: adoption. By doing this you don’t only give your baby the chance to have a live and its own liberty, but you also give an infertile couple the possibility of having their chance to be parents. In my opinion, this would be the best solution in case you don’t want to keep the baby, because everybody ends up winning. 

In conclusion, I believe that abortion shouldn't be legal in any country, because, if we accept this, it would be as if we were allowing the murdering of millions of innocent children that do not deserve to be treated like they have no rights. This method is completely unjustified because not only can it cause plenty of damage to the mother, but also, because there are other ways to solve the problem of an unwanted pregnancy, by adoption. Every child has the right to live and taking that right away is something that nobody should be allowed to do, no matter what.

"Vested Interest, Case: Mad Men"

During thinking skills class with, Maria Brito Evans, we saw a video of the serie, mad men where cigarettes advertisement were discussed, after arguing about it we were told to do a series of questions to analyse the topic.

1. Found some of the vested interests in this scene. How do these work?

2. Why is Peter's idea rejected, and why is Don's idea accepted?

1)     There is Vested interest when Don explains his idea, he keeps metioning how harmless and good for people is (makes them happy), while is the other why around, because it make you dependable of it, and can cause a lot of health problems. He is avoiding the important details of what cigarettes really cause so that they accept his idea. 

         Another example of Vested Interest is when the businessmen reject Peters ideas, because they              realise that they wouldn't win any profit with that and it wasn`t convinient for their company.

2)    Don`s idea was accepted was because during his presentation, he never mention the real and dangerous consequencesof cigarettes, instead, he introduced it as something that could led to a healthy life leting people by the product without any worries. But, Peter mentions the consequences of smoking, so as making people aware of the deathly damege that cigartettes produse is not good for their business they decided to refused his idea.

Un advertising tobacco companies do not show the negative aspect of smoking, or the consequences. Moreover, the people advertizing the cigarettes are young and healthy, so, the make people think that they will look that way, and that it is a good habit, when in reality, is the other way around. Furthermore the people shown smoking are often athletes un open spaces, but smoking is really bad forma sports.

The tobacco companies can not tell the truth un their advertizing because they would loose millions of dollars sin se probable many people do not know the consequences of smoking and if  their were shown in advertizing or in the packaging people would be more aware and scared which would lead to them stop consuming. Also, many scientists riscks their carrera by working for these companies so they do not want the truth out

In this advertizing a Baby is telling ver mom to go smoking , so ir shows people that cigarettes do not affect kids, when in reality is really does. It alzó shows that smoking males you a good mom.

"Should Death Penalty be abolished?"

“DEATH PENALTY”

Capital punishment is the act of killing a criminal for his/her crimes. This has been used throughout many centuries, but it is not legalized in every country they don’t believe is the best solution. Death penalty is accepted in China, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, United States, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Japan and Vietnam. The most frequent kind of executions are, the electric chair, lethal injections, shooting, hanging, or gas chamber.

In my opinion, this should not be legalized in Argentina, because it is clearly not the best solution. If a criminal has committed a terrible crime such as murder he/she should sentenced to life in prison without parole. Also, death sentence it is not accepted by most of the population and, almost every country in South and North America (except USA) had abandoned capital punishment in law or in practice. This method, even though it is a tough punishment does not deter people from committing crimes, there are some states without death penalty that have lower murder rates than other states who allowed death penalty.

Taking someone’s life is considered a violation to the most important human right, capital punishment infringe this right because it involves torture, cruelty and it is also inhumane and degrading. It is also against every religion and is considered immoral. Death penalty is usually biased against the poor and people from other ethnics, your race and the place where you are determinates whether if you live or you die.

Another reason is that there has and always be cases of executions of innocent people, no matter how good the justice system is in each country. Death penalty is irreversible and we shouldn’t be taking any chances. Finally, this method is a very expensive one, and the government would save $9 million annually if death penalties were eliminated.

In conclusion Capita Punishment is inhuman, irreversible, irreparable, and cruel, that is why this shouldn’t be allowed in any country.
